Join us to empower your journey and amplify your impact in project management!

The first roundtable is going to be on November 5th – learn more and register – all genders are welcome!

We asked Diane what motivated her to start this roundtable, what it is about and what topics are going to be covered during the upcoming roundtables.

  • What is the primary goal of the PMI chapter roundtable?

The primary goal is to provide a collaborative, inclusive space where professionals at all levels can exchange ideas, share experiences, and develop their skills. It aims to foster community, empower women in project management, and inspire participants to excel in their careers.

  • Why did you decide to start this roundtable?

I supported and helped run a PMO roundtable in the Puget Sound Chapter for over six years. It was an incredible learning experience where I discovered new tools, techniques, and best practices that I could immediately apply to my projects. It also provided a safe space to ask questions and learn from seasoned professionals. Roundtables are valuable because they foster mutual learning and growth, regardless of experience level. This new roundtable is a continuation of that mission, focused on empowering women and allies in project management.

  • If you are a chapter member how long have you been a member?

I’ve been a Mass Bay Chapter member for a year and a half. Although new to this chapter, I’ve been actively engaged with PMI for over ten years, and I’m excited to bring this initiative to the Mass Bay community.

  • What are the key themes or topics that will be discussed?

The key themes will revolve around the challenges and opportunities specific to women in project management. Some of the core topics include:

  • What’s Your Superpower? Building Your Personal Brand
  • Innovative Project Management Tools: Exploring New Technologies to Enhance Outcomes
  • Breaking Through the Glass Ceiling: Overcoming Gender Bias and Creating Inclusive Environments
  • Mentorship and Sponsorship: The Role of Mentors in Career Development

These topics will rotate monthly, providing diverse insights and practical takeaways.

  • Who is the target audience for this event? (e.g., experienced project managers, newcomers, etc.)

The roundtable aims to attract a wide range of participants, from newcomers interested in project management to experienced professionals across different industries. The value of the roundtable lies in the variety of perspectives it offers, which promotes thoughtful discussion and learning. We welcome everyone—regardless of gender, experience level, or profession—who is passionate about project management and interested in contributing to a supportive, growth-oriented community.

  • What is the structure of the roundtable? (e.g., panel discussions, Q&A, workshops)
The structure leans towards a true roundtable format, encouraging open dialogue among all participants rather than passive listening. Each session will include facilitated discussions creating an environment where everyone can engage, share, and learn.
  • Are there going to be different hosts or you will invite speakers and then do a discussion?

We will invite subject matter experts and guest speakers for certain sessions, but the focus will remain on group interaction. Facilitators will guide the conversations, ensuring every attendee has the opportunity to participate and contribute to the discussion.

  • Is there any topic announced before each meeting?
Yes, each meeting will feature a specific topic, theme, or focus area to drive meaningful conversations and provide targeted outcomes. By announcing the topics in advance, participants can prepare and reflect on their own experiences, ensuring deeper engagement during discussions.
  • What do you hope participants will learn or gain from the roundtable?

We hope participants leave each session with new ideas, actionable strategies, and a sense of community. Whether it’s learning a new project management tool, receiving career advice, or building relationships with peers, the roundtable is designed to offer value at every level of experience.

  • Are there any specific tools, techniques, or best practices that will be shared?

Yes! The roundtable will explore a variety of tools and best practices used in project management today. For example, we’ll discuss emerging technologies, project management software, assertive communication and strategies for stakeholder management. Participants will also have the chance to share what has worked for them in their own practice.

  • What challenges or opportunities in project management do you think will be a major focus of the roundtable?

Some of the key challenges we’ll address include gender bias in the workplace, barriers to career advancement, and achieving work-life balance. On the opportunity side, we’ll explore how mentorship, networking, and building personal brands can help participants unlock new career paths and leadership opportunities.

  • Are there any emerging trends or technologies that will be discussed?

Absolutely. Project management is evolving, and staying ahead of the curve is crucial. We’ll cover topics like AI-powered project management tools, the rise of remote and hybrid teams, and how diversity and inclusion are shaping the future of project management. These discussions will help participants stay informed and ready to lead in an ever-changing industry.
