Volunteer Role: Business Development Representative
Volunteer | Remote | Flexible Hours
Role Overview
The Volunteer Business Development Representative (BDR) supports the growth and sustainability of the PMI Massachusetts Bay Chapter by helping identify, engage, and qualify prospective corporate sponsors, partners, and group event buyers.
This role focuses on outbound lead generation and early-stage relationship building, working closely with chapter leadership to expand PMI Mass Bay’s corporate footprint while supporting professional development events, conferences, and year-round programming.
This is an excellent opportunity for professionals interested in business development, sales, partnerships, marketing, or leadership while giving back to the project management community.
Key Responsibilities
Outbound Lead Generation
Research and identify potential corporate sponsors, employers, and partners aligned with PMI Mass Bay’s mission
Build and maintain prospect lists (companies, contacts, titles, industries)
Support outbound outreach efforts (email, LinkedIn, warm introductions)
Sponsorship & Group Sales Support
Assist with corporate sponsorship outreach for chapter programs, events, and the annual Professional Development Conference (PDC)
Support outreach to organizations interested in group registrations, team training, or bulk event attendance
Help qualify inbound interest and route warm leads to chapter leadership
Relationship & CRM Support
Track outreach activity, contacts, and follow-ups in shared tools (e.g., spreadsheets, CRM, or shared documents)
Help keep sponsorship pipelines organized and up to date
Support follow-up coordination and handoffs to board members or event leads
Collaboration & Strategy
Collaborate with the VP of Business Development & Outreach, sponsorship leads, and event teams
Provide input on sponsorship targeting, messaging, and value propositions
Share feedback on what’s resonating in the market
Time Commitment
2–5 hours per week, flexible and self-directed
Increased involvement may be available during major event cycles (e.g., PDC)
Ideal Volunteer Profile
Interest in business development, sales, partnerships, or marketing
Strong written communication skills
Comfortable with light outbound outreach (email / LinkedIn)
Organized, reliable, and comfortable working independently
Familiarity with project management, PMI, or professional associations is a plus—but not required
