President's Message
“If it is to be, it is up to me.” and other Neal Whitten-isms
mailto:president@pmimassbay.org
by Linda F. Desmond, PMP, President
As I started to write my monthly article for the newsletter, I thought of the two large events that have occurred this past month-most notably, a one-day seminar with Neal Whitten and an awesome Career Night this past week. It was a good month to get PDUs! Working with both teams, and attending both events gave me an inside view on how well the board and volunteers were working to turn out two seamless events.
At the Neal Whitten event, I worked the registration table in the morning, starting at 6:45AM – it’s good I am a morning person! I was handing out books, name cards etc. At the Career Night I attended weekly meetings and stuffed papers into the handouts (even the hour before the event in the Marriott lobby). Both were good experiences. Often as president of a large organization, you don’t get down to this level of involvement, but with a volunteer organization, every “body” needs to pitch in and contribute. It was an interesting experience to be “taking orders” rather than giving them; this is what listening “to the pulse” of the organization is all about!

Building PMI Mass Bay
Volunteer to Make An Even Better Chapter Organization
http://www.pmimassbay.org
by Evans Travis, PMP, President-Elect
How are you feeling about being a chapter member? How is your career going? What if I told you that you could get more for your membership in the chapter than a nice dinner at a chapter meeting? What if you knew a way to use your chapter membership as a means of catapulting your career and friendships? Would you do it? You should! The Mass Bay chapter is only as vibrant and active as the volunteers we can get to help carry the vitality of the chapter. The recent successful “Career Night” is a perfect example. We had over 300 people attend! It ranks as one of the largest events ever conducted at the chapter. It took a team of more then 10 people a couple of months to make this event happen. We are still getting accolades for how it went. YOU could be a part of a team like that.
