Message from the President
by Martin Hatzadourian, PMP, President PMI Mass Bay Chapter

The modern profession of project management had its beginning in the construction and aerospace/defense industries. Interest and participation continued to grow until a group of five volunteers founded the Project Management Institute (PMI) outside of Philadelphia in 1969. Today the Project Management Institute is the global advocacy organization for the project management profession with more than 200,000 members and 254 chapters in over 150 countries. The Mass Bay Chapter has grown to 1972 members which puts us as the 17th largest PMI chapter in the world! Now it is more important than ever to focus on how the chapter can best serve you and to understand what all of us can do to make our PMI memberships more valuable.

Education Update
Maintaining Certification
by Linda F. Desmond, PMP, President-Elect, PMI Mass Bay Chapter

At the September chapter meeting, I was overwhelmed by how many PMPs were present and how many first time members there were. It made me think that I could use the article on getting PDUs to maintain your certification, just one more time. If you have read this in the past year, pass it up, but if you are newly certified, this will be of interest. If you know me, you know I am always looking for ways to get PDUs for free, or for a low cost, so consider this a lesson to feed your “frugal” gene.

How to Get Out of a Slump
Volunteering not only brings joy to others—it can help you feel better about yourself
by Susan Jeffers, Ph.D

There are times on our Journey through the huge-ness of life that we feel lost, unloved, helpless and defeated. What do we do when we find ourselves in such an unhappy state? Some of us escape into the land of danger and defeat. We "get out of ourselves" by drinking too much, or taking drugs, or feeling sorry for ourselves, or complaining, or whatever else that stops us from doing what is truly necessary...and that is taking responsibility for our own experience of life.

Martin Hatzadourian, Chapter President welcomed the large crowd gathered for our first meeting after a summer hiatus. BUCEC, Boston University’s Corporate Education Center, sponsored this meeting and donated several free dinner meetings. BUCEC is a PMI education provider and major supporter of the Chapter Dinner Meetings and Educational Programs.
