President's Message
by Ed Horniak, President

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

June brings an end to another very successful year and to my term as President of the PMI Mass Bay Chapter.  Thank you for helping make this a very special year for the Chapter and for me.  Our success this year could not have been possible without the support and commitment of each and every one of you.

Serving as your president this past year was extremely fulfilling. I must say that there were several challenges that made life quite interesting, but with the help of a strong Board and very dedicated volunteers, the Chapter moved forward, as I must now do as I move in the role of Past-President, joining our other distinguished Chapter statesmen, who still remain very active Chapter members. I want to thank you for giving me this opportunity to serve you and the Project Management profession.

Message from the President-Elect
by Martin Hatzadourian, President-Elect

Dear Chapter Members,

I look forward to becoming the President of the
PMI Mass Bay Chapter starting July 2005.  I have been a member of the Mass Bay PMI Chapter since 1995 and I am very proud to be part of a local professional organization that has grown both in membership and in quality of programs.  During my years with the chapter, I have actively participated with the board in various activities and programs, as well as with PMI, as a Charter Member of the Servicing and Outsourcing SIG.

For the new members and for those who don’t know me, my work experience is in the Project Management of large Consulting Services and technology outsourcing projects. I have held various leadership positions as an IT Manager, Professional Software Services Manager, Marketing Programs Manager and Global Programs Manager during my 30 years tenure with Compaq Computer Corporation, presently Hewlett-Packard and formerly Digital Equipment Corporation. Currently, I am a Senior Project Manager with Electronic Data Systems Corporation in the Health Care Industry, managing multi-million dollar outsourcing technology projects.

June 16, Chapter Meeting - Next Generation PMO
Jack Duggal, MBA, PMP Projectize Group

Next Generation PMO: If You Build It Will They Come?

PMOs have been a hot topic at many levels – from project managers to board rooms. There is a lot of resources being utilized on implementing PMOs. Are they paying off? Are the stakeholders coming to utilize the services of the PMO? While the PMO has been a growing trend, the reality of the turbulent business environment is posing new challenges for implementing PMOs. The pressure to deliver more with less and reduce overhead has created a need to find innovative approaches. Whether you are building a PMO to support and enhance project management capabilities or to focus on strategic aspects of Portfolio Management, you may encounter implementation challenges and mixed results. While the PMO can offer tremendous benefits and have strategic impact, the challenge is in the focus of the PMO and the way it is implemented and sustained. How can you find innovative ways to build and sustain a PMO that can address the challenges and critical success factors to overcome the barriers? This session will distinguish between traditional and next generation approaches and discuss the emerging themes for sustaining a results-oriented PMO. Also, the concept of PMO-in-a-Box will be demonstrated to establish a process and project management framework for your organization.

Volunteer Appreciation
by Michelle Runge, Director of Volunteers

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to thank all of the members who volunteered their time to the Chapter this year.  Through the many committee teams, the PMI Mass Bay Chapter membership enjoys the benefits of quite possibly thousands of hours of volunteer involvement.  The most important asset any organization has is its human capital. Our volunteers represent all of that human capital by contributing their vision, knowledge, and ideas to shape PMI Mass Bay Chapter’s future.  As we hope to expand our agenda of programs, our volunteers become more important in helping us successfully meet our mission and goals.

Our volunteers have made the following projects possible:

·          Chapter Communications

·          PMP Certification Study Groups

·          Breakfast Meeting Roundtables

·          Advancement of the Project Management Profession Symposium

·          Monthly Chapter Meetings

·          PMP Preparation Courses

·          Corporate Outreach

·          Student Outreach

So we, the Board of Directors, are appreciative of those members who stepped forward and gave of their time and energies to the Chapter in 2004-2005.  In an effort to recognize and acknowledge the individuals who made significant contributions, we have listed their names below and the project(s) they worked on.  Thank you very much.
