President's Letter
by Ed Horniak, President
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
May is such a beautiful month in New England, with trees budding and flowers in bloom. One cannot help but be inspired to learn and grow. This month certainly brings us several opportunities to do just that.
May also means that our Chapter’s Annual Meeting is now upon us, and with it, our annual chapter elections. This year we are electing a new President-elect to assist Martin Hatzadourian, our incoming President in running our Chapter. We are also being asked to vote on an important change to Chapter Bylaws, allowing us to hold these elections electronically in the future. I would like to encourage you all to attend this very important meeting and let your voice be heard via ballot.

Chapter Meeting - May 19
The End of Management - Todd Proebsting
by Nick Muir, Director of Programs
Todd Proebsting - The End of Management: The presentation will discuss Todd’s interview with Time Magazine (July 22, 2004) about predictive markets. Predictive Markets claim that the "wisdom of crowds" is better, on average, then the best among us at predictions. A formal betting pool, with statistics as the common currency, is used to aggregate disperse bits of information. Better predictions from proper incentive: reveal true beliefs, reveal confidence and gather information. Todd will talk about Microsoft's experience using predictive business markets for better scheduling of internal projects.
Todd Proebsting is a Director of the Center for Software Excellence, which is part of the Platforms Division of Microsoft Corporation. Prior to that he was a Senior Researcher at Microsoft Research, and an assistant professor of Computer Science at The University of Arizona. When not slaving away at his day job, Proebsting tries to sell Microsoft managers on the idea that they can make accurate forecasts with prediction markets.

The updated PMP® credential examination (referred to as the “2005 Examination” for purposes of this communication) will deploy globally at 14.00 GMT on Friday, 30 September 2005. Five days prior, a “blackout” period (beginning on Sunday, 25 September 2005) will commence during which the PMP credential examination will be unavailable.
