President's Message
by Ed Horniak, President

Dear friends and Colleagues,
We are fast approaching April 15 and I for one am feeling my organizational skills being taxed (pun intended). Themes like “Where’s that 1099 from the bank?” or “Didn’t you get a W2 form this year?” are echoing throughout the house. I suspect that this scene is being repeated over and over in households across the country, even those occupied by a project manager. Since many of you are independent consultants running your own business, taxes are not a trivial task.
Getting organized and staying that way is a key to successfully manage your projects and your life. There are a many tools, both professional and home-grown to help you do this, but common sense is perhaps the most powerful. Keep things simple.

Proposed Change to Chapter Bylaws
by Ed Horniak, President
The Board of Directors of the PMI Mass Bay Chapter recommends the following change to the Chapter Bylaws:
1) To allow for electronic (via email or web) elections to take place in the future:
The word “mail” will be deleted from Article VI, Section 3, paragraph 1, sentence 2.
2) To ensure that only individuals who are qualified, by the rules of our bylaws, are included in the slate of candidates:
The word “a” will be changed to the word “the” in Article VI, Section 3, paragraph 1, sentence 1.
This change will be brought to a vote of the membership, during the annual elections at the PMI Mass Bay Chapter Annual Meeting, to be held concurrently with the May 19th, 2005, Chapter Meeting, at 6:00 PM, at the Burlington Marriott, in Burlington, Massachusetts.
To view the Chapter Bylaws in their entirety, including proposed changes, please visit them on the Chapter website. The Additions are highlighted in Blue and the Deletions, are in Red.

Why Project Management needs Organizational Development
by Nick Muir, Director of Programs
Why Project Management needs Organizational Development Joseph Turner of Turner Consulting
This program will provide insights on the integration of so-called “hard” and “soft” skills and their role in project management. Joe will also examine the cycles of project management and how key Organizational Development interventions can support critical organizational change. Through small group and full group discussion, we will learn the skills needed for success and why performance improvement efforts require organizational development support throughout the process. In addition, Joe will consider the ways in which project managers and OD practitioners need to and can learn from and support each other.
