President's Letter

Dear Colleagues,

As my term as President nears its end, I want to thank each and every one of you for your support and dedication in making the PMI Mass Bay Chapter as strong as it has become over the past year.

We accomplished so much with the incredible help and commitment of our volunteer Board of Directors and 60+ key volunteers.  These dedicated members worked together to deliver many new programs and initiatives, including Breakfast Roundtable Meetings, PMP Study Groups, the e-newsletter, four different Training courses, a Corporate Relations program, a Student Relations outreach program, and a Career Development Day, just to name a few.  In addition to these new initiatives, we offered 10 monthly Chapter meetings with excellent speakers and a growing Career Resource Network.

Connecting Project Management to Business Goals

By Dr. William Ibbs

Dr. William Ibbs was selected by PMI seven years ago to research the issue of Project Management’s True Value.  He has proceeded to benchmark dozens of Fortune 500 companies and government agencies.  That work has allowed him to collect a vast amount of quantitative data and experiential information on an array of Project Management issues, such as:

How much do companies spend on Project Management?

How do they measure those Returns on Investment?

What Return on Investment do they achieve from Project Management investments?

What innovative practices are world-class organizations using to connect PM to Business Goals?

Student Relations Year in Review
Student Relations Committee to Present at Brandeis
by Rita Read, PMP, Director of Student Relations

As the Mass Bay Chapter’s 2003-2004 year draws to a close, the Student Relations Committee is set to kick off a pilot presentation with Brandeis University’s Project Management Master’s Degree program.  The team has been collaborating with Brandeis on a presentation to be piloted on June 7th with the graduate project management class.  The presentation will include an overview of PMI, the Mass Bay Chapter, and our new Student Relations program.  Since the Mass Bay Chapter wants to develop a student relations program that most benefits area students, we are also seeking feedback on student interests and needs.

Membership Survey Results
Bryon Lavalla, Membership Survey Team Leader

Many of you may be curious to know the results of the Chapter’s recent annual membership survey.  The survey solicited your opinions regarding programs and services offered by the PMI Mass Bay Chapter.  The Survey Team is grateful to those who participated and thanks them for sharing their thoughts.  Many good ideas and suggestions were provided.

More than 25% of the Chapter’s members completed the brief online survey.  Based on the demographic information provided, this response rate represents an excellent sampling of the Chapter’s diverse membership.  The Survey Team compiled the large amount of data and feedback collected via the survey and recently presented its findings and several suggestions to the Board of Directors.  The Board will use this valuable information at its upcoming Strategic Planning session during which the Board will identify Chapter objectives for the coming year.
